3、前邊已提完的名詞，再一次提及時(shí)前邊加the。Once upon a time there was a little boy who lived in a cottage. The cottage was in the country, and the boy lived there all his life. 從前，有一個(gè)小男孩住在小屋里。小屋在鄉(xiāng)下，男孩一生都住在那里。

4、用以為片語(yǔ)或子句所修飾的名詞以前。This is the book that I promised to lend you. 這是我答應(yīng)借給你的那本書(shū)。

5、用在宇宙空間（獨(dú)一無(wú)二）的星體名詞以前。The sun; the moon; the sky; the earth.太陽(yáng)；月亮；天空；地球。

6、用在方向，方位等名詞以前。The sun rises in the east and set in the west. 太陽(yáng)從東方升起，從西方落下。

7、樂(lè)器的名稱前要加the。To play the piano 彈鋼琴(violin, guitar, flute, etc.)

8、表明部門(mén)的名詞前要加the。Gasoline is sold by the gallon. Meat is sold by the catty.汽油按加侖出售。肉是按斤賣(mài)的。

9、在最高級(jí)別的詞語(yǔ)或序數(shù)(the first……)以前要加the。Taiwan is the best place to live in.愛(ài)灣是最好的居住地。

10、特有名詞在以下情形可加the。

(A) 海、河、大運(yùn)河的名稱：The Thames; the Bahamas;

復(fù)數(shù)形的特有名詞： The West Indies; the Bahamas; 

船舶的名稱： The Queen Mary; the Flying Scotsman; the Comet; 

書(shū)報(bào)刊、雜志期刊、經(jīng)典名稱： the Times; the Central Daily News; the Koran; 商業(yè)建筑、機(jī)關(guān)的名稱： The Ritz Hotel; the Ministry of Education; 

人民總稱： the French; the Japanese; the Chinese; 

用在姓氏的單數(shù)前指其一家人： The Chens will move to the country.
