論文寫作中的冠詞用法，與公共英語寫作中的冠詞用法是一致的。最核心的規(guī)律是：

泛指可數(shù)名詞單數(shù)用不定冠詞，

泛指不可數(shù)名詞或可數(shù)名詞復(fù)數(shù)不用冠詞，

特指名詞（尤其是獨(dú)一無二的事物、由多個(gè)普通單詞組成的專有名詞）一律用定冠詞。

評(píng)論里面有同學(xué)提問什么是泛指什么是特指。那我就在這里簡單解釋一下。

泛指，意思是說，有很多同樣的東西，但是我也不清楚具體說的是哪一個(gè)，所以就隨便說一個(gè)。舉個(gè)例子，我請(qǐng)你吃蘋果，我對(duì)你說：隨便拿一個(gè)蘋果吃吧。我也不知道你要拿哪一個(gè)。這個(gè)情況就是泛指。

特指，有兩層意思。一是有很多同樣的東西，但我就說這一個(gè)。比方說，我請(qǐng)你吃蘋果，我拿起一個(gè)蘋果給你，說：吃這個(gè)蘋果吧，又紅又甜。這個(gè)情況是特指。另外一層意思，是說獨(dú)一無二的事物。比方說太陽，月亮，地球，中華人民共和國，美利堅(jiān)合眾國。

一般來說，當(dāng)我們?cè)谡撐漠?dāng)中，第一次提到一個(gè)概念或者一個(gè)事物的時(shí)候，只要它是可數(shù)的，就要在前面加不定冠詞a。以后，只要再提到它，就要在前面加定冠詞the。

比方說，前文提到 A drug was developed to treat cardiovascular diseases...我也沒有具體指明這是啥藥物，所以呢，只能在這兒用泛指，前面加上一個(gè)不定冠詞a。

下一段我又提到這個(gè)藥物了 It is found that the drug cannot effectively improve coronary blood flow, but can specificially expand the penile cavernous artery. 所以要在藥物前面加the。

coronary blood flow (冠狀動(dòng)脈血流)是短語，中心語flow是不可數(shù)名詞，沒有具體提到哪一個(gè)人的冠狀動(dòng)脈血流，所以在這兒是泛指，不能加冠詞。

penile cavernous artery (**海綿體動(dòng)脈)是短語，中心語artery是可數(shù)名詞，所以這個(gè)短語前面，要么加不定冠詞，要么加定冠詞。前文有specificially(特異性地)，暗示這種藥物就是能擴(kuò)張**海綿體動(dòng)脈，所以此處的**海綿體動(dòng)脈是特指，必須加定冠詞the。看到這里學(xué)醫(yī)的同學(xué)就都反應(yīng)過來了：這種藥物是大名鼎鼎的西地那非(sildenafil)，商品名萬艾可(Viagra)。

具體情況可以參閱英語語法書。

不過對(duì)于一些學(xué)術(shù)詞匯，該如何加冠詞，一般的英語語法書不會(huì)講。我以前看過一些中國人寫的論文寫作教程，長了不少經(jīng)驗(yàn)，不過現(xiàn)在忘了不少，只能憑記憶寫一些我確定有把握的。建議題主參閱中國人用漢語寫的學(xué)術(shù)論文寫作教程。

物質(zhì)名稱（無論是系統(tǒng)命名、通俗命名、藥物命名）都不加冠詞，而且也不可數(shù)。例如：methane，ethanol，ethyl acetate，penicillin。 但是如果物質(zhì)名稱用作定語修飾某個(gè)中心語，那么多半要在前面加the，如the methane molecule。

人名命名的定律、公式不加冠詞。例如Newton's first law，Euler's formula，Mendel's law。但是有機(jī)化學(xué)中的人名反應(yīng)卻要加冠詞。例如the Reformatsky reaction。

特指公式中的某個(gè)字母，不加冠詞，例如：The formula of Newton's second law is a = F/m, where a is accleration, F is external force, m is mass.

公司、組織機(jī)構(gòu)、科研基金的簡稱不加the，全稱要加the，例如：Microsoft和the Microsoft Corporation，NCBI和The National Center for Biotechnology Information，NSF和the National Science Foundation (of China)。

大學(xué)則不同，無論全稱簡稱都不加the，例如我的母校China Pharmaceutical University (CPU)。有些學(xué)校共享同一個(gè)校名，例如北京的清華大學(xué)和新竹的清華大學(xué)，也不能加the，只能在后面加上城市作為區(qū)分。

報(bào)刊雜志的標(biāo)題，無論全稱還是簡稱，前面不加the，例如：Nature，Science，Journal of the American Chemical Society，當(dāng)然，有些報(bào)刊雜志標(biāo)題里面本身就有the，不要混淆，例如The New York Times。
