調(diào)制解調(diào)就是我們常說的Modem，其實(shí)是Modulator（調(diào)制器）與Demodulator（解調(diào)器）的簡稱，中文稱為調(diào)制解調(diào)器。計(jì)算機(jī)內(nèi)的信息是由“0”和“1”組成數(shù)字信號(hào)，而在**線上傳遞的卻只能是模擬電信號(hào)（模擬信號(hào)為連續(xù)的，數(shù)字信號(hào)為間斷的）。

于是，當(dāng)兩臺(tái)計(jì)算機(jī)要通過**線進(jìn)行數(shù)據(jù)傳輸時(shí)，就需要一個(gè)設(shè)備負(fù)責(zé)數(shù)模的轉(zhuǎn)換。這個(gè)數(shù)模轉(zhuǎn)換器就是我們這里要討論的Modem。計(jì)算機(jī)在發(fā)送數(shù)據(jù)時(shí)，先由Modem把數(shù)字信號(hào)轉(zhuǎn)換為相應(yīng)的模擬信號(hào)，這個(gè)過程稱為“調(diào)制”，也成D/A轉(zhuǎn)換。

一般人的語音頻率范圍是300—3400Hz，為了進(jìn)行話音信號(hào)在普通的**系統(tǒng)中傳輸，在線路上給它分配一定的帶寬，國際標(biāo)準(zhǔn)取4KHz為一個(gè)標(biāo)準(zhǔn)話路所占用的頻帶寬度。

在這個(gè)傳輸過程中：語音信號(hào)以300—3400Hz頻率輸入，發(fā)送方的**機(jī)把這個(gè)語音信號(hào)轉(zhuǎn)變成模擬信號(hào)，這個(gè)模擬信號(hào)經(jīng)過一個(gè)頻分多路復(fù)用器進(jìn)行變化，

使得線路上可以同時(shí)傳輸多路模擬信號(hào)，當(dāng)?shù)竭_(dá)接收端以后再經(jīng)過一個(gè)解頻的過程把它恢復(fù)到原來的頻率范圍的模擬信號(hào)，再由接收方**機(jī)把模擬信號(hào)轉(zhuǎn)換成聲音信號(hào)。
